Road safety is a priority in Luxembourg with an ambitious goal to halve the number of road fatalities by 2020. Many initiatives are in the direction of greater safety on our roads: speed reduction in built-up areas and speed checks. And among the killed and injured on the roads of Luxembourg, 23% are cyclists. Their security is therefore a particularly sensitive issue that concerns the national representation.
In a parliamentary question on May 11, 2017, MP Josée Lorsché (dei gréng) asked the Minister of Sustainable Development and Infrastructures François Bausch (responsible for road safety) for the relevance of inserting in the Luxembourg Highway Code a minimum distance for overtaking the two-wheeled vehicles, interest and possible support for the “1m50lux” initiative fixing this minimum lateral distance of overtaking to 1m50.
