The reorganization of the rescue and fire fighting forces of the Grand Duchy took a turn today. On Tuesday, 24 April 2017, the Deputies (MP) adopted a set of 110 amendments proposing the creation of a public structure organizing the rescue services in Luxembourg, the Grand-Ducal Fire and Rescue Corps (CGDIS), which will now organize work (with professionals and volunteers), in principle from 1 January 2018.
The number of professional firefighters is estimated by Minister of the Interior Dan Kersch between 600 and 800, depending on the number of volunteers, the more volunteers and the fewer professional firefighters.
