Gouvalert.lu alert app from Luxembourg government is available on the Apple and Google stores. Announced for almost a year, the alert app for the population and published by the Center of information technologies of the State (CTIE) at the initiative of the Luxembourg government is now available for download.
Gouvalert.lu has two functions:
– the first is to allow a person who needs to directly contact the unique emergency number 112 to dial the phone number directly pushing a button on the application.
Using the geolocation services of the smartphone (GPS and / or WiFi) this app will make possible to determine with a greater precision the position of the caller to 112 today evaluated around the position of the relay antenna which emitted the signal .
– the second is to allow the authorities of the country to inform/alert the population in case of a major or critical event and to be able to determine the presence of people close to the event.
Alerts likely to be sent by the government are related to nuclear risk, terrorist risk, energy disruption, risk on drinking water, meteorological warnings, geographical area in which many victims are present.
Once downloaded, the application requires to provide a Luxembourgish telephone number in order to validate the installation.
