The Lithuanian Ministry of Defense confirms the arrival of Luxembourg soldiers on its soil by the port of Klaipėda on 17 July late night.
These soldiers intervene as part of the “Enhanced Forward Presence” (eFP), a NATO mission to ensure the security of the Eastern European Alliance member countries ( The Baltic States and Poland) with regard to the potential risks posed by Russia following the annexation of the Crimea and support for the pro-Russian separatist militias in eastern Ukraine.
This reinforcement of the NATO presence has been effective since the beginning of 2017. For the year 2017-2018 the NATO contingent deployed in Lithuania contains soldiers from Germany, Norway, The Netherlands, Belgium, Croatia, France and Luxembourg.
Luxembourg armed forces will contribute to provide logistical support to the multinational military unit in Lithuania. Soldiers bring 10 transport trucks with them.
