Forty-three new recruits took the oath on the 12 January at the Diekirch Military Center in the presence of Defense Minister Etienne Schneider and the new Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces General Alain Duschène.
This ceremony marks for volunteers the completion of the four-month basic training. This phase aims to prepare the volunteer soldiers for their 36-month military training, which can then be extended. Of a total of 65 recruits, 43 have successfully completed basic training.
In particular, five volunteer soldiers of Portuguese nationality, one of German nationality and one of Italian nationality, were sworn in. Luxembourg nationality is not compulsory to take its first steps in the army.
