After the announcement of the establishment of the headquarters of the EuroHPC in Luxembourg, it is now the details of this major pan-European supercomputers project that are unveiled.
The Prime Minister Bettel communicates today the provisional planning of this project, crucial for the competitiveness of companies and research centers in Europe so much the calculation power available today is insufficient and is a limit to the economic development, and requires the stakeholders to use computing power outside Europe with the risks in terms of confidentiality of data and industrial secret that one can imagine.
The creation of EuroHPC’s headquarters will take place during the second half of 2018 in Luxembourg. From 2018 to 2023 a team of 10 to 15 people will be set up in the Grand Duchy. Then a network of supercomputers capable of handling a billion of billion operations per second (exascale) will be set up across Europe and will have as a point of entry Luxembourg. These supercomputers will be built from 2022-2023.
