As a result of repeated attacks by Russia on Ukraine and the annexation of Crimea, a NATO mission is to strengthen the protection of the most eastern members of the Alliance, Poland and the countries Baltic.
Luxembourg as a member of NATO takes its part and actively participates in the “Enhanced Forward Presence” (eFP) mission in Lithuania, which represents a significant budgetary effort given the size of the country but shows the government commitment in its ambitious policy of supporting and developing Luxembourg’s defense.
Since 17 July 2017, 22 Luxembourgish soldiers have been on the Lithuanian soil through the port of Klaipėda, in order to provide logistical support to the multinational military unit in Lithuania. The soldiers have 10 transport trucks with them.
In the opinion of all the participation of the Luxembourg contingent in difficult terrain and weather conditions is a success, a success hailed by Grand Duke Henry himself during a visit to the troops at the end of October in Lithuania.
